Transform Killing Games

Transform Killing Games

Recently my 3.5 year old son was trying to ‘kill’ me with his pants.

Hmm – never thought that would be sentence I’d write, but hey, that’s being a parent!!

We were playing a mini chasing game on the bed as I was trying to get him changed when he grabbed his pants (undies) from my hand and pinged them at me like a rubber band.

“I’m going to kill you”

Not exactly the words I’d love to hear coming from George’s mouth, but I know that a lot of boys really do love fighting & killing games, so I didn’t want to shut the game down.

Instead I turned it into a different meaning and we continued to have so much fun.

So if / when your child (let’s be honest, it usually is the boys) wants to shoot your or kill you, there IS something you can do to turn the attention away from the violence and actually use it to connect with them instead.

  1. Love it, great. Mine is 3.5 yo and he loves playing knights and pirates. How would you turn the “I’m going to fight with you”, “I’m going to poke you with this stick/sword” into positive connecting play?
